Shark spotted close to shore at popular Queensland beach

A shark has cleared out a beach in Queensland as swimmers caught footage of it coming dangerously close to the shore.

The shark was spotted by a tourist at the shoreline of Cylinder Beach on North Stradbroke Island, off Brisbane's coast this morning.

Witnesses told 9News that people "ran" from the water as the shark alarm sounded.

A crowd watched on as it swam within metres of the beach.

One brave surfer was spotted in the water during the sighting.

No one was injured or attacked by the animal.
