Security guard smashes car window to free baby
A shopping centre security guard has been hailed as a 'hero' after smashing the window of a car to rescue a baby locked inside during scorching heat.
Onlookers filmed the incident outside Parabanks Shopping Centre in South Australia on Saturday.
In footage uploaded to Facebook a burly security guard can be seen hovering around the passenger side window before smashing it with a hammer.
After breaking the window a concerned bystander, who first alerted authorities to the trapped child, reaches inside the car and pulls the baby to safety.
By this stage temperatures had skyrocketed to 42°C.
Onlookers called police who arrived and spoke with a woman who claimed full responsibility for locking the baby in the car.
Police said the woman had taken the baby out because the boy's mother was at home ill.
The boy was taken to Lyell McEwin Hospital for a check-up but was unharmed.
No charges have been laid against the woman.
