Scotty James fears losing Olympic gold to Shaun White’s reputation

Australian snowboarder Scotty James has voiced concerns that Olympic judges’ awe of his American competitor Shaun White could cost him a gold medal at this year’s Games.

James will be representing Australia for the third time at a Winter Olympics when he takes to the half pipe in PyeongChang, South Korea, but acknowledged he’s facing tough opposition.

“I put my life on the line everyday snowboarding and I work so hard and then some silly people behind a desk dictate some score which is a little bit really frustrating for me sometimes,” he told 9NEWS.

At last month’s X-Games competition, James’ competitor White was awarded a perfect 100 score to win a gold medal and beat James – something the Australian flagbearer said the American would want to improve on.

“Shaun, I mean if you were to ask and he looked at that run, he would tell you that was not a perfect 100,” he said.

“(I’m) pretty sure I got the world’s first second place with a 98 at the X-Games, which I pat myself on the back for.”

The Opening Ceremony of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games will be held this Friday.
