Salim Mehajer facing bankruptcy over $600,000 marble staircase

Ousted Auburn deputy mayor Salim Mehajer could be facing bankruptcy over a $600,000 marble staircase in his over-the-top Lidcombe home.

The 31-year-old controversial property developer could be bankrupt by Christmas unless he finds $1 million to pay for the lavish staircase by December 12.

Prime Marble and Granite have been chasing Mr Mehajer for an unpaid invoice of $596,178 since at least 2015, the Sunday Telegraph reports.

The Greenacre-based company sued Mr Mehajer and won, with NSW District Court Judge Judith Gibson ordering Mr Mehajer in October to pay the company almost $1 million - covering the cost of the staircase and the company's close-to $400,000 legal costs.

After failing to pay by November 3, Mr Mehajer has been served a bankruptcy notice which he has a fortnight to pay.

The floating staircase featured in a video clip for the artist formerly known as Lil' Bow Wow.

In August, Mr Mehajer placed the Frances Street, Lidcombe, home up for rent.

He is charging $2,950 a week with a bond of $11,800 for the property he purchased for just $565,000 in 2007, before carrying out extensive renovations.

This is also not the first time this year that Mr Mehajer has seen the inside of a courtroom for failing to pay his bills on time.

Last month, he reportedly settled out of court with cleaner Anping Yan over an unpaid debt of $25,000.

Days before the out-of-court settlement, Mr Mehajer secured bail with very strict conditions after being arrested following a car crash in Sydney's south.

It was his second accident in less than a month.

Mr Mehajer was charged with dangerous driving and two counts of breaching an AVO taken out against him by his estranged wife Aysha Learmonth.

Police allege she called police after becoming concerned at seeing a white Audi she believed her estranged husband was driving while at a McDonald's restaurant.
