Murder accused sprinkled holy water on victim’s coffin

A 26-year-old woman charged with the murder of an Adelaide grandmother cried and sprinkled holy water on her alleged victim’s coffin.

Myrna Nilsson, 57, was found dead in her Valley View home on a Friday night in September 2016.

Her daughter-in-law, Caroline Nilsson, who was found in the street bound and gagged, told police two men had killed Mrs Nilsson after forcing their way into the house.

She said they had also tied her up before stealing property.

But Superintendent Des Bray now alleges the claims related to the home invasion were fabricated, and no-one else is being sought in relation to the case.

"Police would like to reassure the community that this was not a random incident and not a home invasion," Supt Bray said.

Major Crime Detectives also believes Nilsson’s three children, all under the age of five, were also inside the home when the alleged murder was committed.

Nilsson was arrested in Mount Gambier this morning, and remains in a custody.

She was due to appear in Mount Gambier Magistrates Court today, but paperwork for the appearance wasn’t filed in time; she is now scheduled to face court tomorrow.
