Damaging winds to hit parts of SA

A severe weather warning remains in place for South Australia's southern coastal regions but Adelaide looks set to escape the worst of a deep low-pressure system moving across the state.

The system reached Eyre Peninsula and Kangaroo Island early on Thursday and will extend eastwards during the day.

Damaging winds of up to 90km/h have been forecast along with showers and more rain expected on Friday when Adelaide could get up to 10mm.

The Bureau of Meteorology says areas that may be affected include Port Lincoln, Mount Gambier, Kingscote, Naracoorte, Victor Harbor and Meningie.

The highest gusts recorded so far have been 102 km/h at Cape Willoughby, 96km/h at Hindmarsh Island and 91km/h at Strathalbyn.
