Guest who killed SA groom weeks after wedding faces sentencing

A wedding guest who murdered a newly-married debt collector weeks later will face a continued sentence hearing.

Phi Ngoc Phu Le, 26, has pleaded guilty to murdering Amin Asrawe, who sustained 24 wounds inflicted with a machete and filleting knife when he was ambushed outside his Adelaide home early on August 9 last year.

Last month in the Supreme Court, widow Dounia Asrawe read out her victim impact statement in which she referred to Le being at their wedding and to his visiting them at their home.

"You shook my hand and smiled at me - that very hand slaughtered my husband a few days later," she said.

Prosecutor Corinna Baohm said Le owed Mr Asrawe $30,000, while the accused's barrister Marie Shaw QC said Mr Asrawe had owed Le money for drugs and his plan had been to rob him, not kill him.

But Ms Baohm said the evidence pointed to pre-meditated murder, saying this was the first time a robbery-gone-wrong had been suggested.

The hearing will resume on Wednesday.
