Two men have had to be winched to safety by a police helicopter after becoming stuck on a cliff face on South Australia's Fleurieu Peninsula.

The two men, aged 28 and 31, ran into trouble on a cliff about 200 metres west of the Second Valley jetty as they took photographs and then discovered they couldn't climb up or down.

PolAir was called in about 7.30pm on Tuesday and the two men were winched to safety. The helicopter crew spotted another couple in the area on rocks and winched the woman to safety. The man managed to walk himself out.
