Total fire bans have been declared in two South Australian districts with temperatures set to soar across the state.

The Country Fire Service says bans will be in force on Thursday on the west coast and the eastern Eyre Peninsula where severe conditions are expected.

The bans come as temperatures climb into the mid to high 30s with Adelaide forecast to have a top of 34C.

The Bureau of Meteorology says in the mid-north Port Augusta could reach 39C and Coober Pedy 38C.

The CFS says in severe conditions well prepared and actively defended homes can offer safety during a fire but if local residents don't have a bushfire survival plan then leaving early is the safest option.
