HOW THE ROSSAIR CRASH INVESTIGATION WILL PROCEED:

* Five Australian Transport Safety Bureau investigators will spend several days at the crash site, about 2.6 kilometres from the Renmark Airport.

* They could decide to reconstruct parts or all of the Cessna Conquest in a hanger at Renmark to help their inquiries.

* ATSB investigators in Canberra will examine radar and other data, including radio transmissions.

* Checks will be made on the plane's maintenance records and flight history, especially on the day of the crash.

* Various scenarios will be considered including mechanical and fuel issues, a possible bird strike, and the impact of any flight training exercises such as a simulated engine failure.

* Checks will be made worldwide for any similar incidents involving Cessna Conquest aircraft.

* The ATSB plans to publish a preliminary report within 30 days and a final report within 12 months.
