A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for parts of South Australia with forecasts of heavy rain over Kangaroo Island and the southeast which could cause flash flooding.

The Bureau of Meteorology says centres likely to be affected include Kingscote, Mt Gambier, Naracoorte, Robe, Miningie, Bordertown and Keith.

A similar storm warning has been cancelled for the Adelaide Hills and Yorke Peninsula but the bureau says more storms could develop later on Tuesday.
