Spree of violence in traditional lands

A series of of violent incidents on traditional Aboriginal lands in South Australia has led to ten arrests.

The accused males, whose ages range from 16 to 39, have been charged with aggravated affray.

A 30-year-old man also has been charged with aggravated assault on police, while a 39-year-old has been charged with aggravated assault causing harm.

Police on Thursday said the arrests followed several disturbances over a three-day period at Amata in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands in SA's far north, including one when an officer was allegedly punched in the face.

Some of the accused have been remanded in custody, while others are expected to appear in the Coober Pedy Magistrates Court on Thursday.

"Additional police have been deployed in the community and will remain in place to take positive action with regard to any ongoing disturbances and assaults," police said.
