Gas prices to fall in SA

South Australians are set to pay less for gas, with the average household to save $47 over the coming year.

Australian Gas Networks has cut its distribution charges, which account for about half of the average domestic gas bill.

The 11 per cent fall applies from July 1, 2016 but must be approved by the Australian Energy Regulator.

"AGN is very conscious that the cost of living, including utility bills, is a major concern for many people in South Australia," chief executive Ben Wilson said on Thursday.

"Distribution prices make up around half the average domestic natural gas bill and so we have a role to play in the affordability challenge."

Mr Wilson said AGN also remained on track to complete its mains replacement program to deliver improved safety and reliability of gas supplies.

All cast iron and old steel gas mains are due to be replaced by 2021.
