Restrictions ease across South Australia in time for Easter

Pubs, clubs and restaurants will be able to welcome more people back ahead of Easter across South Australia.

Premier Steven Marshall announced the further easing of restrictions around caps and density today.

The current one person per two-square-metre rule will change to three people per four-square-metres, which Mr Marshall said would allow venues to lift capacity from 50 per cent to 75 per cent.

Caps on indoor venues with fixed seating such as churches and cinemas will also go up to 100 per cent capacity from midnight next Tuesday.

There is still a requirement to wear masks in those settings when at max capacity.

Private gatherings remain at 200.

Dancefloor restrictions will also lift at venues licensed to host under 1000 people.

Mr Marshall said the state's performance during the busy Fringe Festival gave the Transition Committee the confidence to begin easing restrictions this month.

"South Australia has done extraordinarily well during the Adelaide Festival, Fringe and WOMAD period," he said.

SA Police Commissioner Grant Stevens said there had been a "lengthy debate" about the restrictions and he overruled SA health on density limits.

"This is not an end point, this is another step along the journey and it's a very long journey," he said.

Commissioner Stevens pressed the point that any venue with a capacity of more than 1000 people must have a COVID-safe management plan in place.
