The move – the first of its kind in the state in more than two decades – seeks to address ongoing concerns, including those about unlicensed inspectors.
While builders and tradies are legally required to be licensed, inspectors who come on-site to check properties don't need to be registered.

"We'd like to sort out some of those unlicensed people and others who are bad news for the industry," Stephen Knight from Housing Institute Australia said.

"A lot of people (are) getting in there claiming they are licensed or they can do work," Will Frogley from Master Builders SA said, adding that "sunlight is the best disinfectant" for such behaviour.
The first changes are set to be introduced next year.
