A second man has been charged with murdering a Melbourne man whose body was found in a barrel in central Victoria six months after he went missing.

Albanvale man David Whimpey, 30, disappeared in Melbourne's north in October and his body was found at a property near Lake Eppalock last month.

A 46-year-old Sunshine man was on Tuesday charged with Mr Whimpey's murder while another man, aged 31 and from St Albans, is also facing a murder charge.

Mr Whimpey was last seen near a hotel in Keilor on October 23 but his body was found more than 100km away in Mia Mia on April 24.

A silver Subaru Impreza was spotted speeding along the Heathcote-Kyneton Rd the morning after he went missing and detectives wish to speak to anyone who saw it.

The two accused men are due to face Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.
