The search for a 79-year-old man missing in South Australia's outback has entered its fifth day.

The Whyalla man, who is experienced in the bush, was last seen on Saturday at a remote station at Angepena, near Leigh Creek, where he was staying.

The search, launched late on Monday night when his car was found by station staff, has covered more than 300 square kilometres of rugged terrain.
