Police investigating the unsolved murder of a South Australian pedophile are keeping an open mind about the motive and believe a group of unidentified men may hold the key.

Detectives have renewed calls for information about the murder of Rodney Larcombe, who had been convicted of child sex offences carried out when he was a scout leader.

The 65-year-old was found dead in his home at Warradale on November 28, 2013.

Investigators have followed a number of lines of inquiry in relation to his murder.

"We have an open mind about the motive in this case," said Detective Rod Huppatz in a statement.

"We have specifically looked into his convictions for child sex offences but there are other factors which could be at the heart of this which we don't want to make public at this time."

Police last year released video footage to identify five men seen near Larcombe's home - but none of them have been identified.

They are not believed to be suspects but could hold an important piece of information in relation to the murder.
