SA to fight seal problem with firecrackers
AAP
Firecrackers will be used to scare seals away from fishing nets under a trial in South Australia's Coorong region.
The state environment department has also installed barriers to prevent seals congregating around fishways for an easy meal.
"Based on interstate and overseas experiences, neither culling nor relocating seals is effective, so we are trialling a combination of non-lethal measures to reduce their impacts on the local fishing industry," a spokeswoman said on Wednesday.
