SA teachers get 2.5pc wage hike

South Australian teachers have accepted a new pay deal that will see their wages rise by 2.5 per cent a year.

Australian Education Union members voted to accept the latest offer after nine months of negotiations with the state government.

"We have negotiated hundreds of millions of dollars in extra funding to reduce administrative workloads so that teachers have more time to do what they love and be in the classroom," branch president Howard Spreadbury said on Saturday.

The new agreement includes $10 million a year for extra teaching resources for students with additional needs and learning difficulties.

There's also increased funding for preschool directors and an extra $1 million a year for student support programs in preschools.

Education Minister Susan Close offered the three-year deal in February and said it was affordable, fair, and allowed better workload management.

The AEU's 14,000 members will get their pay backdated to October 2015.
