New point-to-point speed cameras on a South Australian highway have returned a positive road safety result with more than 99 per cent of motorists doing the right thing.

The cameras on the Sturt Highway, in the SA Riverland, have been operating for a month and nabbed just 92 motorists for speeding with another 32 fined for failing to keep left and two for driving unregistered.

Chief Inspector Brett Foster says that means more than 99.8 per cent of drivers were doing the right thing after 97,500 vehicles passed through the cameras.

"While it is early days yet, these figures reflect a positive road safety result for all road users," Insp Foster said.
