Summer shark patrols begin in Adelaide

Aerial shark patrols along Adelaide's metropolitan coast and south of the city are set to start as locals hit the beaches for the first weekend of summer.
The patrols begin on Saturday, two days earlier than originally scheduled, following a large number of shark sightings in recent weeks.
The fixed-wing patrols stretch from North Haven, in metropolitan Adelaide, to Rapid Bay, south of the city.
Separate patrols also cover the area between Victor Harbor and Goolwa, on the Fleurieu Peninsula.
Emergency Services Minister Peter Malinauskas says the government is spending $400,000 on the patrols across summer and they've proved very effective.
But he says people enjoying the water should also take care.
"While the patrols will keep an eagle eye out for any sharks infringing on our beaches as best they can, our coastline is expansive and they can't be watching over every beach at every hour of the day," the minister said.
