Premier apologises after second embarrassing robo-call stuff up

The South Australian Opposition will seek to ban political robocalls after the second day of early morning phone messages from the Liberal Party.

Yesterday, some Adelaide residents were woken by the early calls which the government described as a "blunder".

More calls went out by mistake this morning prompting the Liberal Party organisation to apologise for a second time and for Premier Steven Marshall to promise it would never happen again.

But Opposition Leader Peter Malinauskas says the automated phone calls should be banned.

"South Australians hate these robocalls," he told reporters today.

"They literally disrupt families trying to go about their everyday lives or even people trying to sleep."

Mr Malinauskas said if Labor was returned at the next state election it would seek to use electoral laws to ban the calls.

He said Labor would also be willing to work with the current government to put a stop on them sooner.

Yesterday, the survey calls from the Liberals went out across a number of suburbs between 6.15 and 7.15am instead of on Tuesday night.

The calls asked voters if they thought South Australia was generally heading in the right direction or in the wrong direction.

Treasurer Rob Lucas said the calls were a "blunder" and said he suspected "someone's backside is going to get a boot".

More calls went out this morning and Premier Steven Marshall said mistakes were unacceptable and said it was time for an overall review of political campaigning.

"What has happened over the last two days has been completely and utterly unacceptable," Mr Marshall said.

"The Liberal Party has apologised and so they should. It's a major blunder.

"To happen once is completely unacceptable, to happen twice is outrageous."

Mr Marshall said he had spoken with the Liberal Party president and had a commitment the error would not be repeated.

"It will not happen again," he said.
