SA policeman to be charged over crash

A high-ranking South Australian police officer is facing charges over a crash in the Adelaide Hills in December last year.
Assistant Commissioner Philip Newitt has been reported for aggravated driving without due care and driving without due care over the crash involving a car he was driving and a motorcyclist at Cudlee Creek on December 28.
The motorcyclist, aged in his 40s, was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with serious head injuries but was discharged in January.

Mr Newitt will appear in the Mount Barker Magistrates Court on Monday where the case will be handled by the director of public prosecutions.
He will remain in his current position of assistant commissioner of operations support service.
