SA Police losing their cool with motorists

Police have let fly at a drunk driver in Adelaide who blew four times the legal limit after crashing their vehicle into two parked cars.

Police say the 32-year-old man is lucky to have escaped serious injury in the incident early on Saturday, describing him as "reckless", "irresponsible" and an "idiot".

The language is evidence of their growing frustration with motorists, and the rising road toll which has resulted in seven deaths over the past eight days.

The state's toll for the year so far is also running much higher than the same time last year, with 53 fatalities so far in 2019 compared to 33 in 2018.

Senior officers have said that all the deaths were avoidable.

In Saturday's incident, emergency service crews were called to the SA suburb of Millswood at about 2.30am where the unlicensed driver crashed the Toyota utility into the rear of an Isuzu SUV and Mazda sedan.

He returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.228.

The man was issued with a 12-month loss of licence and was reported for drink driving, aggravated due care, drive unlicensed, unregistered and uninsured.

The SA Police media release read "the idiot will be summoned to appear in court at a later date".
