SA pair acquitted of police firebomb plot

Two former prison cellmates have been acquitted of plotting to firebomb the car of a senior South Australian policeman.

A Supreme Court jury on Monday found Frederick Bernard Walkuski, 63, and Hendrik Van Shaick, 42, not guilty of conspiring to endanger the life of Detective Inspector Craig Wall.

The pair had previously been found not guilty of plotting to murder two South Australian judges using improvised fire bombs.

Walkuski, who is serving a 17-year prison sentence, was alleged to have offered Van Schaick $5000 to firebomb Insp Wall's car upon his scheduled prison release in August 2014.

But the plan was foiled when another inmate tipped off police.

Walkuski and Van Schaick denied the plot, saying it had been invented by the other inmate.
