A South Australian man charged twice with causing the death of a mother and injuring her son in a high-speed crash has been ordered to stand trial.

Ian Peter Clarke appeared in Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday over the 2015 crash, which killed Leanne Smith and injured her 25-year-old son, Ryan.

It is alleged he was driving more than 45km/h over the speed limit and under the influence of ice when he slammed into the back of their sedan at Annadale, 110 kilometres northeast of Adelaide.

Clarke was charged with dangerous driving offences after the crash but they were abandoned by prosecutors in 2016 because of a dispute about evidence.

Last year he was again charged with aggravated causing death by dangerous driving and aggravated causing serious harm by dangerous driving after police travelled to the US to analyse the airbag of his car.

Clarke entered not guilty pleas to those charges, and his bail was continued to appear before the District Court in August.
