A man jailed for a brutal bashing murder in the South Australian Riverland has lost an appeal against his conviction.

John Paul Spilios and Darren Charles Bascombe were found guilty of the murder of Luciano Caruso after bashing the 49-year-old at his Monash property over a drug debt in 2013.

Spilios appealed against his conviction arguing he had no case to answer but the Court of Criminal Appeal ruled against him on Tuesday.

In his reasons, Justice Tom Gray said the victim was subjected to a sustained beating with blows targeting his head and face leading to multiple facial and skull fractures.

Bascombe blamed Spilios and an unnamed third man for Mr Caruso's death but Spilios denied any knowledge of the killing.

However, Justice Gray said Spilios had been caught out lying during the trial and by the close of his evidence his credibility was in tatters.

"There can be no question of a miscarriage of justice having regard to all of the evidence given in the trial," the judge said.
