An Adelaide man has admitted to killing his teenage friend while driving under the influence of drugs.

Callum Nelsen Shannon was behind the wheel of a white Toyota sedan when it hit a tree at Chandler's Hill, south of the CBD, in September 2018.

The 20-year-old and his friend, Cael Paparella, were both rushed to the Flinders Medical Centre, where Mr Paparella died several days later.
