SA killer granted community visits

A schizophrenic woman who killed her mother during a psychotic episode will be allowed to make unsupervised community visits.

Vicky Lee Wagner, 47, was charged in 2010 with the stabbing murder of 66-year-old Joyce Brown in Adelaide's northern suburbs.

She was found not guilty by reason of mental incompetence in South Australia's Supreme Court in 2011 and sentenced to life in psychiatric care.

In South Australia's Supreme Court on Monday, Justice David Peek granted an application by Wagner to have her supervision order varied.

The alteration means Wagner will be allowed periods of unaccompanied day leave from the Ashton House forensic rehabilitation facility, where she has been ordered to continue residing.

Court documents showed Wagner would be banned from using drugs or alcohol, subjected to blood tests and prevented from making contact with a number of people.

Wagner, who had been treated for schizophrenia since 2002, was described by her lawyer at trial as having suffered "a break from reality" when she stabbed her mother more than 140 times.
