SA households face second power price hike

A second energy provider will increase power prices in South Australia, with Origin customers set to pay an extra $117 a year.

The company says the 6.5 per cent price hike, equating to about $2.20 a week, will kick in next month because of the cost and availability of coal and gas supplies.

After AGL on Wednesday announced plans to charge SA households an extra $220 a year, Treasurer Tom Koutsantonis urged customers to consider tearing up their contracts with the retailer.
