More than 140,000 low-income South Australian households will start receiving cheques of up to $200 each as part of a state government package to help ease the cost of living.

The payments, rolled out from Monday, will replace the council rate concessions scrapped by the federal government.

Up to $100 a year is also available for renters on a low-income or pension, as well as self-funded retirees aged 60 or over, the state's Social Inclusion Minister Zoe Bettison says.
