SA govt mulls extending parkland booze ban

An alcohol ban in Adelaide's inner-city parklands is likely to continue, despite fears it may be displacing vulnerable residents.

Adelaide Council approved a three-month alcohol ban between 8pm and 11am in the parklands following complaints of drunken violence in December.

A council committee has since called for a six-month extension.

Consumers Minister Gail Gago says extending the trial would ensure the review considers the city in normal and peak conditions.

"This is about striking a very fine balance," she said on Thursday.

"We must give very careful consideration to all those people who are affected."

Community groups have warned that the ban may be pushing disadvantaged people away from vital support services in the city.

Adelaide Council will decide on Monday whether to extend the trial and their decision will go to state cabinet for approval.
