SA driver reported over losing forklift

A truckie has been charged with driving offences after hitting a bridge in Adelaide and sending a 26-tonne forklift crashing to the road.

The 64-year-old man's rig failed to clear the Jervois Bridge on Tuesday, the collision knocking the forklift from the flat bed with its forks becoming embedded in the bitumen.

The driver has been reported for a critical height breach and for driving without due care and will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

The truck company has also been reported over the critical height breach.

The crash caused an estimated $5000 damage to the bridge, but engineers say it remains safe for vehicles.
