SA council facing fine over landfill site

The Adelaide City Council has been found guilty of failing to meet a deadline to cap a landfill waste site.

The Environment Resources and Development Court has ruled that the council failed to meet a December 2012 deadline to cap the Wingfield site in the city's northern suburbs.

The Environment Protection Authority says three years after the deadline only 15 per cent of the landfill has been covered.

The case will return to court in February for sentencing submissions with the council facing a maximum fine of $120,000.
