SA parliament remembers Bob Such

South Australia's parliament has paid tribute to independent MP Bob Such, who died on October 11.

The 70-year-old, independent MP who held the seat of Fisher since 1989, died after being diagnosed with a brain tumour six months ago.

Premier Jay Weatherill moved a condolence motion in the House of Assembly, saying it was a melancholy task to mourn the passing of a sitting member.

Dr Such would be remembered for his devotion to his constituents and tenacious pursuit of legislation on issues such as hoon driving, vandalism and animal cruelty, the premier said.

"Bob Such displayed no hubris," Mr Weatherill told parliament.

"He never sought power for its own sake and never indulged in the self-aggrandisement of political celebrity.

"There was a genuine humility to this man which made him greatly admired."

Opposition leader Steven Marshall said Dr Such was a passionate advocate for public policy who left behind a vast legacy of achievements.

Details about a further public celebration to honour his legacy will be announced later.

A by-election will be held in the Adelaide seat of Fisher on December 6.
