A South Australian beach has closed to recreational pipi fishing after high levels of E.coli in the water.

Primary Industries and Regions SA closed Goolwa Beach from the Murray Mouth to Middleton Point near Mill Terrace at Middleton on Sunday.

A spokesman said the closure was a precautionary measure to manage any potential health risk associated with the high E.coli levels and further testing would determine when the beach would reopen.
