A sign language interpreter will be used during all declared emergencies in South Australia, under changes to the state's emergency plan.

AUSLAN interpreters have been used in many cases in the past, including during January's devastating bushfires in the Adelaide Hills, but until now it has not been a formal arrangement.

Disabilities Minister Tony Piccolo says government agencies must now include an interpreter in their emergency response planning to ensure as many people as possible receive vital information at critical times.
