Authorities are investigating the death of man after a light plane crashed while cattle mustering in South Australia's far north.

The pilot was the only person in the Cessna 150 aircraft when it crashed at New Crown Station, about 200km northeast of Marla, on Tuesday afternoon.

Major crash investigators have flown to the scene and will assist the Australian Transport Safety Bureau, SA Police said on Wednesday.
