P-plater drove at 156km in 80 zone

A teenage P-plater has been caught driving during peak hour in Adelaide at 156 km/h, almost double the speed limit.

Police say they have identified the Elizabeth Downs teen, who was detected driving his Holden Commodore in an 80km/h zone at Elizabeth Grove on December 18.

The 17-year-old's car has been impounded and he will appear in court at a later date.

Police warned that speeding is a contributing factor in more than 30 per cent of fatal crashes.
