Mechanic used fake name to board plane

A 22-year-old mechanic used a false name to successfully board a flight from Melbourne to Adelaide, a court has heard.

Obsa Alie came before the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday and was fined $400 after pleading guilty to using false identification information to board the plane.

He was also ordered to pay more than $200 in prosecution fees.

It was understood Alie, who was detained when he arrived in Adelaide on Wednesday, used an automated service to obtain a boarding pass.

A commonwealth prosecutor said the automatic check-in facilities relied on the honesty of those who used it.

She said in this case, Alie travelled under a false name.

A duty solicitor told the court Alie had come to Adelaide to visit a close friend who had recently suffered a death in the family and was co-operative with police when detained.

She said once the matter was finalised he intended to return to Melbourne on a flight on Thursday evening.
