Police say a motorcyclist killed in an accident in Adelaide may have hit an electrical pole before coming off his bike.

The 22-year-old man crashed at suburban Ridgehaven on Wednesday morning and died at the scene.

Acting Inspector Kevin Carroll says the circumstances of the incident are still being investigated, including whether speed played a role.

Police say the man may have hit an electrical pole before he came off the bike, which skidded 20 or 30 metres away from the crash site.

"We have a number of witnesses that we haven't had the opportunity to speak to yet but certainly speed is something we will be looking at," Inspector Carroll told reporters.

The death brings the state's 2017 road toll to 11, the same as this time last year.
