Lethal feral rabbit virus spreads in SA

A virus that causes feral rabbits to bleed to death has spread in South Australia, including to Adelaide.

The new strain of calicivirus, known as RHDV2, was found east of the city earlier this year, and Biosecurity SA has urged land owners to keep using traditional population control techniques such as poisoning.

A new strain of calicivirus known as K5 is set to be released next year to help kill the rabbits.
