A Jetstar plane from Adelaide to Bali has been turned back because of an issue with its hydraulic system.

Flight JQ127 departed Adelaide Airport about 7pm on Friday but turned back about an hour into the flight because of an issue with one of its three hydraulic systems.

It landed safely back in Adelaide at 9.30pm.

A Jetstar spokesman told AAP the aircraft could have safely flown to Bali, however the decision to turn back and have it serviced in Adelaide was due to the "greater engineering support we have in Australia".

Jetstar has arranged for Saturday's Qantas and Jetstar flights to Bali to take the passengers booked on the Friday flight.

The aeroplane will be returning to service on Saturday afternoon.
