Heavy rain cuts roads in SA's mid-north

Several roads and tracks across South Australia's mid-north have been closed by heavy rain and flooding, prompting a warning for motorists to take care.

The Bureau of Meteorology said falls over the past 24 hours had included 112mm at Quorn, in the Flinders Ranges, 100mm at Black Rock and 92mm at Bruce.

Further south falls were more modest with Adelaide recording just 11mm over the same period.

The State Emergency Service said more rain was possible and conditions in the mid-north could remain hazardous even after roads reopened.

"Given that it is school holidays, we are mindful of people who are travelling or camping in the outback or Flinders Ranges, who may find themselves unable to get out because of flooded roads and tracks," duty officer Robert Charlton said on Friday.

"This could cause people to become stranded with insufficient fuel, water or food."

Mr Charlton said anyone travelling to the mid-north was advised to take note of warning signs and to check road conditions with the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure before leaving.
