Food safety rating rolls out across SA

South Australians will be able to see how some of their favourite cafes and restaurants stack up when it comes to food safety with a new star rating system.

A voluntary food safety rating system will roll out across the state's pubs, cafes and restaurants from early next year, SA Health says.

Ratings range from three stars, indicating compliance with basic food safety requirements, to five stars, indicating excellent food safety standards. Fifty-four per cent of more than 800 businesses covered in a 12-month trial received a food safety rating.
