Adelaide waste depot fire under control

A fire is still burning at a waste recycling facility in Adelaide's north but authorities say it has been brought under control.

Dozens of firefighters took about 40 minutes to control the outdoor blaze at the facility in suburban Wingfield.

It been contained to an area filled with solvent and sawdust and is likely to be fully extinguished later on Wednesday.

The Metropolitan Fire Service says staff at the centre have helped the effort.

"Workers at the facility have assisted firefighters by using excavation equipment to reduce the fire load," a spokeswoman said.

Local residents had been urged to stay inside because of smoke in the area but the MFS says the smoke has significantly reduced.
