Federal govt helping SA fight bushfires

Justice Minister Michael Keenan says the Commonwealth government is helping South Australia battle bushfires in the Adelaide Hills.

The RAAF Base Edinburgh was available for aircraft combating the blaze to refuel, he said.

"We have provided the runways at RAAF Edinburgh and the water needed," Mr Keenan said.

"We are obviously still in discussions with the South Australian government about any assistance that we can provide."

Mr Keenan said there would need to be an assessment of the impact of the bushfires before determining any natural disaster payments.
