A former Families SA contract driver has denied raping a teenaged girl in state care.

Vasilios Pavloudis, 49, was charged in August with raping and indecently assaulting the girl, who was aged under 14 at the time, while driving her to her care home in July.

Pavloudis was working for a company contracted by Families SA to provide transport for young people in the department's care.

In the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday, Pavloudis pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Pavloudis was released on continuing bail, with strict conditions preventing him from contacting or transporting children.

He will be arraigned in the South Australian District Court on March 23 before facing trial.
