Volatile explosive found at Adelaide house

Homes in Adelaide's north have been evacuated as police prepare to detonate a highly volatile explosive known as "mother of Satan".

A 43-year-old man from the Davoren Park address has already appeared in Elizabeth Magistrates Court charged with possession and manufacture of explosives in relation to the material police found on Monday night.

Aaron Ellis first came to the attention of authorities in February when he posted on social media that he "hated Muslims".

The court heard nothing of concern was found at his home at the time but fresh information received on Monday prompted police to return.

In opposing bail, Brevet Sergeant Daren Cross said Ellis had explained that he had mixed the chemicals into a substance referred to as "mother of Satan".

The court was told the material was highly volatile and could not be transported.

Sgt Cross said the area around the home had been sealed off and neighbouring properties evacuated.

Ellis was remanded in custody and will return to court next week when a report on possible home detention bail will be considered.
